The University of London includes several well-known colleges and completes the “triangle” of prestigious universities in England. The buildings and “campuses” of the University of London are scattered throughout the large city of London. The nine largest colleges at the University of London are University College London, Birkbeck, Goldsmiths, King’s College London, the London Business School, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway, the School of Oriental and African Studies and London School of Economics and Political Science. It was created by the Royal Character of 1836 by bringing together two already-established universities (London University and King’s College). The university is a federal public university that has over 180,000 students attending the university yearly (135,000 on campus, over 50,000 distance learning).
